Welcome to the Palace Saloon located on Whiskey Row in the "old west" town of Prescott, Arizona.
The exact age of the saloon is not sure although in an article of the Arizona Weekly Miner dated Sept. 21, 1877 the saloon was mentioned suggesting it was already there.
The Palace was possibly the first bar in Prescott but there is no definite proof. In 1883 there was a fire that destroyed most of the street including the Palace. When the owner rebuilt the saloon he demanded that it be fireproof. It had an iron roof and iron shutters in the rear. In spite of the fireproofing of the saloon, it was among the many buildings destroyed in the "great" fire of July 1900.
One of my favorite stories to come out of that fire was that the patrons at the bar drinking picked up the huge oak bar and carried it across the street to the Courthouse Square plaza...and continued drinking!! That oak bar came over in a covered wagon sometime in the 1880s and is still the centerpiece of the saloon.There are so many ghosts stories associated with the Palace but one of the famous stories is the "Phantom Cowboy" who walks up to the bar at closing time for his last drink. Another story is about the high stakes poker game in the back room. A man named Nevins lost his mortuary in that poker game and is believed to still show up in the back room to replay that game.

Had a great time there.Ate outside in the back and had great drinks. Super nice people. Cant remember the ladies name who owned the bar but had a great conversation with her. Also met some people who told us about the tunnels that run under the town. Suppose to be quiet about that though.
